In Colombia, the metalworking industry and the energy transition intersect at a point where innovation becomes a driver of development. Two national companies, Acesco and Alurack, exemplify this convergence by offering structural solutions in steel and aluminum that promote sustainable construction and the expansion of renewable energy in Colombia and the region.

Acesco: Steel Building the Future

Acesco is one of the leading companies in the manufacturing of metal solutions for construction, infrastructure, industry, and the real estate sector. From its plants in Barranquilla and other regions, the company produces galvanized flat steel, structural profiles, metal roofs, pipes, and flooring systems, all under processes that guarantee quality, durability, and competitiveness.

Today, Acesco combines its industrial experience with a strong sustainability focus. The company has consolidated an environmental strategy that promotes responsible resource use, reduces its carbon footprint, and transparently reports the environmental impact of its products. Through tools such as its carbon calculator and Environmental Product Declarations, Acesco enables builders, designers, and developers to make informed decisions regarding the materials they use.

Its digital initiatives also strengthen its relationship with the construction sector. The BIM library allows for easy integration of its solutions into architectural models, while its roof simulator provides an interactive experience to visualize material and design alternatives. Together, these tools position Acesco as a strategic ally in the planning and execution of sustainable projects.

Alurack: Sustainable Structures for Solar Energy

Alurack is a Colombian company specialized in designing and manufacturing aluminum structures for photovoltaic solar systems. Its value proposition is based on the use of 100% recycled aluminum, making it a key player within the renewable energy and circular economy value chain.

From its facilities in Malambo (Atlántico) and Girardota (Antioquia), Alurack designs solutions that combine technical excellence, durability, and an environmental perspective that recognizes the urgency of climate action. Its mission is to advance the renewable energy market through products that help reduce the levelized cost of electricity, generating benefits for both society and the planet. Its vision is to actively contribute to the shift toward a decarbonized economy by developing structures that support clean electrification processes in Colombia and the region.

Alurack’s corporate values—excellence, professionalism, empathy, and environmental awareness—are reflected both in its production model and internal culture. The company integrates knowledge, engineering, and sustainability to create solutions that facilitate the deployment of solar systems at various scales.

An Alliance to Accelerate the Energy Transition

In November 2023, Grupo Acesco acquired 65% of Alurack S.A.S.’s outstanding shares, formally integrating it into its corporate structure. This integration marks the convergence of Acesco’s industrial expertise in steel solutions with Alurack’s innovation in recycled aluminum solar structures. Together, the two companies strengthen their production and technological capacity to meet the growing demand of the solar sector, advancing energy diversification in Colombia.

The strategic union expands Grupo Acesco’s presence in the renewable energy sector while consolidating Alurack as a competitive player with industrial support, operational capacity, and a sustainability vision. The result is a joint proposal that delivers economic, environmental, and social value.

Presence at Exposolar 2025: Recycled Aluminum for a Real Energy Transition

During Exposolar 2025, Energía Limpia spoke with Isabel Uribe, Director of Sustainability and Corporate Innovation at Acesco Colombia, and Adriano Orrego, Metallurgical Engineer at Alurack, who provided insights into the company’s contribution to the energy transition from an innovation and circular economy perspective.

Uribe highlighted that Alurack’s business model is based on circular economy principles, integrating aluminum waste collected across the country into production. This waste is reprocessed into high-quality profiles for solar systems, maintaining the resistance and performance levels required by the market. This strategy allows for efficient adjustment of industrial input according to available materials and ensures a responsible, adaptable, and sustainable operational model.

Thanks to this approach, Alurack has contributed to the installation of approximately 500 megawatts on Colombian rooftops, delivering solar solutions to homes, industries, and businesses in cities such as Bogotá, Medellín, and Cali, as well as in more remote areas, including San Andrés. Their products have also reached international markets, expanding the reach of their sustainability message.

Using 100% recycled aluminum, Orrego explained that Alurack is a fully Colombian company that bases its production on this regenerated material, allowing it to save up to 95% of the energy that would be required to produce virgin aluminum. This energy saving makes recycled aluminum a key material for solar systems and positions the company as a benchmark in industrial sustainability. Its operations are fully sustainable, sending a clear message to the market: the energy transition depends on regenerative and responsible production chains.

The presence of Alurack and Acesco at Exposolar 2025 reaffirms their commitment to building a more sustainable energy matrix. Their investment in recycled materials, efficient processes, and technological innovation demonstrates how national industry can lead the transition toward a decarbonized economy from within its own territories.
