In Colombia, something that until recently seemed impossible is now happening: manufacturing lithium-ion batteries locally and sustainably. That is the mission of BATX, a company that is redefining the country’s energy transition. Founded by Pablo Castellanos Ramelli and his team, BATX is the first company in Colombia dedicated to both producing and remanufacturing batteries, under a circular economy model that combines technology, innovation, and environmental sustainability.
Its approach is based on a proprietary and patented technology that allows the diagnosis of end-of-life batteries—especially those from electric mobility—to evaluate their state of health and remaining lifespan. Based on this assessment, BATX remanufactures viable modules, transforming them into stationary energy storage systems, ideal for solar and other renewable energy applications.
The process, carried out entirely in Colombia, includes advanced technical diagnostics in specialized laboratories, followed by the integration of the modules into new, safe, and efficient configurations. The result: 5 kWh modular systems, scalable according to customer demand, along with portable and high-voltage versions designed to bring clean energy to rural or off-grid regions.
But BATX goes beyond storage. The company also manufactures new batteries for electric mobility, featuring modular design, smart battery management systems (BMS), and high reliability standards. Additionally, it offers specialized repair, maintenance, and technical training services, aimed at strengthening local expertise and promoting the responsible use of energy storage technologies.

At the heart of its work lies a circular methodology that guides every step:
- Collection and classification of batteries at the end of their first life.
- Diagnosis using proprietary technology to assess their condition.
- Remanufacturing of viable modules to ensure optimal performance.
- Integration into new storage systems for stationary or mobile use.
- Responsible recycling of components that cannot be reused.
This process significantly reduces hazardous waste, lowers dependence on critical raw materials, and extends the lifespan of lithium and other key materials. In doing so, BATX proves that innovation can be circular, creating both economic and environmental value.
Beyond technology, the company represents a new way of understanding energy in Colombia—a vision that combines local manufacturing, sustainability, and autonomy. Through its work, BATX is helping to build an emerging industry capable of meeting the challenges of the global energy transition from within.
With its innovative and circular approach, BATX not only drives the adoption of clean energy but also demonstrates that Colombia’s sustainable future can, quite literally, be built from within.
